Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

Lord, may we as your people be a blessing to our governing authorities regardless of whether we voted for them or not. Lord, if you called us to pray for our enemies, you most certainly have commanded us to pray for and submit to those in authority over us.

May we rise above our political and economic views to faithfully intercede for those who rule over us.

May we as your people be a blessing to our nation and a force for good. May we as your people be a force for unity rather than division. May we be driven daily to your throne by the conviction that ultimately, all authority rests in your hands and you are calling your people to seek your heart on behalf of our leaders. Amen.
