Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight
Isaiah 5:20-21Lord, you are our Creator. You have made us and you alone know what leads to life and joy. You have clearly told us how to live in righteousness so our lives an our nation bring you glory. Forgive us for seeking to be politically correct rather than godly. Forgive us for striving to be tolerant to the exclusion of being righteous. Forgive us for fearing people but not honoring you. Forgive us for following the latest trends of the world while feeling embarrassed to cite scriptures by which we live and make our decisions.
Lord, on this day of decision in our nation, there is much that is displeasing to you. What you have called evil, we have called good. What you have called darkness, we have called light. We have developed all manner of labels and terms for what you have clearly and decidedly called sin.
Across this land today, we ask that your children would view things as you see them. May we desire righteousness as you do. May we despise evil and sin as you do. Deliver us as a people from trusting in ourselves. Free us from the need to be in charge. Forgive us for trusting in our own wisdom instead of in your wisdom. Help us today to be a nation that reflects your ways, your values and your heart. May we be a nation that truly follows your ways. Grant our prayers in the strong name of Jesus – Amen.
