O God in heaven, we come before you as your people, called by your name. We humble ourselves before you today and ask that a spirit of humility characterize our lives in all ways and to all people. Search us today, Father, and know our thoughts; reveal to us any wicked ways that live in us and bring us to confession before you in these moments…

In these days, we face many issues as a nation. Many of our fellow citizens are wrestling with fear, many with greed, many with understanding the place of material possessions in their lives. Remind us today of the words of your Son and enable us to focus on ‘laying up treasures in heaven’ rather than being paralyzed by the turmoil around us.

Grant in our nation’s leaders a heart for you and for eternal truth. May each of us and all of us pursue what is on your heart and mind before we make decisions and draw conclusions about anything in life today. Help us to know that in your economy, the necessary decisions are many times the hardest decisions. We need your wisdom.
