Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you

Father, as we look across our nation today, many are hurting and in need. These are days of suffering and hopelessness for many of our fellow citizens. We pray for a heart that is sensitive to your heart – for eyes to help us see those in need the way you see them. May we represent you as we show mercy to others.

May we use each opportunity to point others to the true source of peace and to the one who can meet the real needs of life. May there be an outpouring across the nation of sharing, encouraging, and giving. Teach us, O Lord, what is means to give of our time, talent and treasure in ways that bless others and glorify your name. Grant that this time of economic change would be a time when each of us will assess who and what we are trusting for meaning and purpose in our lives. Use this time, O Lord, to turn hearts to you – Amen.
